Emma’s Cake Smash & More! {Gilbert Baby Photography}

It happened.  Kenny Chesney warned me, “Don’t Blink.”

I did…and now Emma is turning one!  She was one of the very first babies I ever photographed so she really holds a special place in my heart<3

To celebrate her first year we did a super cute Cake Smash Session in my studio.  Her crafty mom and grandma made the cake and cake stand and her adorable tutu is from Pout in Pink in Gilbert, AZ.

Then it was off to the Riparian for more fun…

This last one really brings tears to my eyes.  I just found out that their family is moving for a great job opportunity.  Good luck in Seattle you guys!  I have been so fortunate to witness Emma’s first year and I’m going to miss you guys dearly!!!

Wear it Wednesdays {Best Scarf Tutorial Ever!!!}

It’s officially Fall….YEAH!!!!!  I love this time of year because we get to break out all those fun fall clothes.  One of my favorite Fall accessories are scarves.  I love throwing one on with a plain t-shirt skinnies and boots for a simple, sophisticated look.  Plus my toddler can’t destroy my scarf when she pulls on it like she does my chunky necklaces.

Scarves are also one of the best ways to add a pop of color to your outfit for a photo session. They come in tons of colors, prints, and patterns and they also help to add layers to your overall look…score!

 I  love wearing them but can never figure out how to wear them in different ways…UNTIL NOW!!!

Check out this 4.5 minute video. It will CHANGE YOUR WARDROBE FOREVER!!!

Wear it Wednesdays {Family Portraits Gilbert AZ}

You’ve researched photographers and finally found one (hopefully me! wink, wink), picked an awesome location, and now it’s time to figure out what to wear.  I get asked this question a ton from clients so I decided to post some ideas on how to make sure you look your best for your session!

Tip #1  DO NOT ALL WEAR THE SAME COLOR

Coordinating is one thing, but wearing the exact same style of white button down shirt and khakis is well pretty boring in my opinion.  Pick a color pallette that everyone could work with.  I like to start with a colorful print dress, shirt, or sweater that the whole family can pull colors from to build their outfit around.  Don’t be afraid to use color and patterns.

Tip # 2 BE COMFORTABLE, BE YOURSELF

If you never wear heels and decide to “dress up” for your portraits, you will most likely be very uncomfortable and feel awkward during your shoot.  This is not the time to feel self-conscious because it will show in your portraits.  Who cares if your family doesn’t own any fancy clothes and the only shoes your husband has in his closet are flip flops.  Let everyone’s personalities shine and always be true to yourself.  Don’t forget to dress accordingly for the season and location as well.

Tip #3  LAYER, LAYER, LAYER

You might have a favorite shirt or dress that everyone has already seen you in.  Add a fun jacket or sweater with a chunky necklace to change things up.  It’s always easier to work with several clothing choices so don’t be afraid to bring some options to the shoot.  I’m sure your photographer will be more than happy to help you determine what would look best on camera.

2013 SENIOR REP SENECA {Gilbert, AZ Senior Portraits}

I didn’t have to look far for my next guinea pig for senior portraits.  Seneca is a super sweet girl from next door.  She’s an incredible dancer, has impecable style, and is also one of the BEST babysitters (she makes homemade playdough and crafts with my kiddos)!

For our first location we trotted around downtown Gilbert.  I love how these turned out!

Charlotte 3 weeks old {Phoenix Newborn Portraits}

I got to hang out with this little sweet angel in my studio.  Even though she is a little older than I prefer to shoot newborns, we were still able to get her in a few “sleeping” poses.

Some helpful tips if you are planning on having newborn portraits taken:

1.  Book your photographer early.

I suggest lining one up within your first trimester.  For my clients I will pencil in their session date around their due date, this way I make sure to be available when the time comes and avoid booking too many clients around their tentative session date.

2.  Plan for props

The best thing about booking early is that it gives you time to prop shop!  Do we even need any other reseason to book in advance now:)

3.  Keep things simple

Newborn shoots are best when the focus is on the newborn.  For families with siblings, I suggest taking family portraits when the new baby is at least 3 months old.  This way older siblings can safely hold the baby if parents choose to do so.
